this would be a killer feature if you could have this preset as your base standard metadata stamp on every import, without having to choose it from the menu every time. or did i miss this?

Matty, i was $50 shy (i.e. i didn't have that money in the bank) of getting an 80 - 200 nikon lens on ebay for almost $700. i thought i had the win, i was even dreaming about it the night before the auction ended. i'm a sad, sad man...in other news, my buddy Ben is going to hook me up with assistant stuff on some shoots he going to be on. check out his stuff - www.benkulo.com.

When taking photos outside, how can I adjust for a really bright background (e.g. a lake or a ski slope), especially when the subject that I am shooting is much darker?

When using any run of the mill digital camera the automatic setting is addictive– especially on small point and clicks that make it hard to adjust quickly. But say I want to switch out of the habit of always using auto? The phrases aperture priority, shutter priority, EV, Fill-Flash, and histograms become a little too technical for the casual photographer. The phrase "full manual" is a little daunting to non-hobby shooters, and adjusting these setting can become confusing.

Is there a quick way (a cheat sheet of sorts) to break down what features do what and how these features help in practical situations, for example, shooting a portrait of a friend or landscape/landmark that litters everyones holiday pictures.

The question I'm asking is what's "Automatic Mode," and how does a camera know what the best setting are, and can I do a better job with just a little knowledge? Is that enough to make better photos with my point and click? Do I have to invest more time reading up on photography concepts?
