Powerpage and Macworld ‘computer experts’ surprised…

Posted by Matt on Jun 14, 2006 in Apple

Powerpage recently reported on MacWorld’s report that the black MacBook was actually SLOWER (GASP!) than the white MacBook when similarly configured.

MacWorld later reveals that they tested the white MacBook with the 60 gig drive and the black with it’s 80 gig drive– but when the drives were swapped the performance was linked to the drive. In other words, there’s no performance difference in the laptops. The two different drives simply perform different tasks faster than others.

So I just gotta wonder, do MacWorld and PowerPage have some sort of axe to grind?

In the meantime I just gotta ask, what the fuck is with the vendetta against the black MacBook? Yes, it costs $150 more for a black finish and a slightly larger hard drive. Yes Apple allows you to configure the white MacBook with an 80 gig drive, basically getting you the same computer for $100 less than the black model.

But have you ever seen the finish on an iBook after a few weeks? I can describe it in one word for you– scratched to shit. So yes, I’ll pay $150 extra for a slightly larger hard drive, and a much more scratch resistant finish (and a piece of that old Powerbook Pismo love).

In the meantime, enjoy the deliberately misleading hard hitting investigative reporting that is PowerPage, and MacWorld.

Apple in 07 = Be in 97

Posted by Matt on Jun 13, 2006 in Apple

http://www.birdhouse.org/macos/beos_osx/

Read that. Everything that you see about BeOS? That’s where MacOS X will go. I mean, it’s only taken like 10 years for OS X to catch up to Be and it may look different, but mark my words, it’s where Apple’s interface is headed. More and more of iLife will become part of the OS– the already blurry lines between iLife apps will become even more blurred. The apps will become the OS.

And before you think I’m crazy, just keep in mind that Apple one of the guys that designed the BeFS (BeFileSystem), Dominic Giampaolo.

I dropped my laptop– again.

Posted by Matt on Apr 3, 2006 in Apple, life, tech

I dropped it, and it still works. It still works. I can’t believe it.

Two drops, from 4 feet, onto a corner, and the worst thing that happened is that it got dented.
