10.5 in October?
So I’m on hold with Apple Support today to get to the bottom of a Mail issue, for what feels like an eternity (time honestly moves slower when you’re hungry). I could bore you with the details, but in the end we decided that this was an issue with the rendering of certain emails on OS X Mail– causing random emails come thru as gibberish.
Here’s where it gets interesting. The support rep apologizes for not being able to answer my question, but then adds, “Apple updates the OS and the Mail app frequently, for instance 10.5 Leopard will be out in October.”
Oh…ok cool. Thanks. Wait. What did you just say!? Yeaaaah- A tech support rep says Leopard will ship in October. So place as much faith in that as helps you sleep at night.
I’m not holding my breath, but it would be cool as shit.
That’d be nice.
Be nicer to buy it at the Apple Store in PVD Mall, once it opens…
you didn’t see WWDC 2006 keynote from apple.com? Steve said that 10.5 will be released Spring 2007 after macworld in S.F. it’s not possible to happen coming october. there are still tons of bugs they should fix, and improve. it’s maybe 10.4.8 update. sorry. you’ve got totally wrong information.
Edward,
Yup, I know, I saw the keynote. I don’t think it’ll happen either. It’s simply what I was told. I figured that he meant a forthcoming 10.4.8 update or something…but he specifically said 10.5 Leopard.
But like i said in the post…”I’m not holding my breath”, after all, even if it were true, the likelihood that a support rep would have this info is pretty slim
Edward,
Im sorry but you have all the wrong info. Steve did say that it will be out later this year. I think that Apple can pull it off. They have a grate team working on 10.5. I went to WWDC and I have a copy of 10.5 and I only have about 4 things wrong.
Actually, he might have been referring to MacOS X 10.4.8, which includes some minor updates including to Mail. He probably heard that there was an update being released in October, and assumed that it was 10.5, not an update to Tiger.
I’m only saying this because the reports are that Apple began seeding 10.4.8 to developers yesterday, so an October release for that update would be reasonable to expect…
Leopard will probably ship in February/March so they don’t have to offer free upgrades for everyone who buys a Mac during the holidays…
